Why Catch Height Changes the Score

Developer Journal · risk versus reward

By the Focus Drop team · August 2026

Waiting until a drop is huge and centered near the bottom feels safe. It also pays poorly. The live height zones are:

We wanted a visible tradeoff: early taps demand prediction and punish bomb misreads; late taps forgive hesitation but collapse score. Combined with bombs and phantoms, height becomes a second skill axis beside aim.

Campaign levels that accelerate spawn rates force that tradeoff into the open — especially Storm Season and The Abyss finales.

PRACTICE EARLY CATCHES

Implementation note

Catch height is a deliberate risk tradeoff: earlier catches can score more while late catches provide a safer timing window. The scoring system applies this multiplier after rating and streak.

See the Wiserunts publisher page for authorship and the live game for the behavior described here.
